The connection – a technical point of view
In Sweden, all system scaffolds have to be type approved in accordance with European standards where extensive tests, including full-scale tests to verify calculations are conducted.
SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden has tested and evaluated the +8 Universal Scaffolding System.
Essentially, due to the high stiffness and the beneficial behaviour of the connection between vertical and horizontal when subjected to large forces the System has been evaluated to have a higher leg load than most other system scaffolds.
Is high leg load really necessary for a docking system?
No, normally high leg load is not needed for a docking but the same factor – the connection – that gives high leg load due to a more ridged and stiff structure will also make a docking structure more stable for the benefit of the technicians working on an aircraft.
